1.Introduction

Homestead ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and otherwise process personal information when you use the Homestead app (the "App"), whether accessed via the Apple App Store or other platforms.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By downloading, installing, or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy.

2.Information We Collect

2.1Account Information

When you create an account, we collect: name, email address, and your subscription preferences.

2.2Home Profile Data

To provide personalized maintenance recommendations, we collect information about your home, including:

  • Home address and location
  • Home age and construction details
  • HVAC systems and heating/cooling equipment
  • Plumbing systems and water heating
  • Roofing material and condition
  • Electrical systems
  • Appliances and their models
  • Home condition assessments (exterior, interior, appliances)

2.3Preference Data

We collect information about your preferences, including your DIY skill level, preference for professional vs. DIY maintenance, and whether you wish to receive notification reminders.

2.4Property Data

We use RentCast, a third-party property data provider, to supplement your home profile with publicly available information such as roof age, property tax records, and construction type. This integration is optional; you can opt out during onboarding.

2.5Usage Data

We collect information about how you use the App, including:

  • Features accessed and tasks marked complete
  • Time spent in the App
  • Device type and operating system
  • Crash reports and error logs

3.How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and personalize maintenance recommendations using AI analysis of your home profile
  • Create and manage your account and subscription
  • Send subscription renewal reminders and trial expiration notices (if you enable notifications)
  • Improve the App's features and functionality
  • Respond to support inquiries and troubleshooting requests
  • Comply with legal obligations

4.AI and Personalization

Homestead uses advanced AI technology to analyze your home profile and generate personalized maintenance task recommendations. This includes using Claude, an AI model created by Anthropic, to process your home data and suggest tailored maintenance timelines and methods. Your data is used solely to generate your personalized recommendations and is not used to train or improve the underlying AI model.

5.Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:

  • RentCast (property data provider) — only your address and property details, only if you opt in
  • Apple (for App Store subscription management and billing)
  • Service providers who assist with hosting, analytics, or customer support (under confidentiality agreements)
  • Law enforcement or government authorities as required by law

6.Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 90 days, except where required by law to retain records (e.g., for tax purposes). Anonymized or aggregated data may be retained indefinitely for analytics and product improvement.

7.Your Rights and Choices

7.1Access and Deletion

You can access, update, or delete your account and associated home data at any time through the App settings, or by contacting us at hello@homesteadapp.io.

7.2Notification Preferences

You can toggle notification reminders on or off in your account settings at any time.

7.3Opt-Out of Third-Party Data

You can choose not to share your data with RentCast during onboarding, or disable it later in settings.

8.Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure. However, no security measure is perfect, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Your use of the App is at your own risk.

9.Children's Privacy

Homestead is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we discover that a child has provided us with personal information, we will delete such information promptly.

10.Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be effective immediately upon posting to the App. We will notify you of material changes via email or an in-app notification. Your continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
